Diagnostic guide
Know when to call us out.
Recognise these patterns early — the difference between a repair and a replacement is often weeks.
Granules collecting in gutters
Granule loss is the first visible sign of shingle failure. When you see grit in the gutters after rain, UV degradation is already progressing—and the rate accelerates.
Roof age exceeds 20 years
Memphis asphalt shingles reach practical end-of-life between 18 and 22 years regardless of the stated warranty. Those are two different numbers—ask us which one applies to your roof.
Multiple unrelated leak points
One leak has one cause. Multiple drip points in different areas of the home mean the system has failed—chasing repairs typically costs more than a replacement over two or three more service calls.

FAQ
Common questions
How long does a typical replacement take?
It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how many layers come off and the weather. A simple roof can be a matter of days; a large, steep or complex one takes longer. Ask for a schedule before you sign, and ask what happens if weather moves it.
Should new shingles go over the existing ones to save money?
Usually not. A layover hides decking problems you have already paid to have inspected, adds weight the structure was not designed for, and shortens the life of the new shingles because the surface underneath is uneven. A full replacement means tear-off to the deck.
What happens if rotten decking is found once the old roof is off?
Rotten or delaminated decking has to be replaced before new shingles go on. Ask for the per-sheet rate in your contract up front, and for photographs of anything that is replaced, so there is no surprise number halfway through the job.
What should I ask about warranties?
Ask for every warranty in writing before you sign: the shingle manufacturer material warranty and any workmanship warranty from the contractor. Check how long each lasts, what it covers and whether it transfers to the next owner if you sell the house.
